Queens Medical Center
RIM Architects was selected by the Queen’s Health Systems to provide Due Diligence and Architectural services for their recently acquired facility now called Queen’s Medical Center West O`ahu Campus on the Leeward side of O`ahu. This major renovation project includes renovation of the emergency department on the first floor of the hospital, addition of an MRI room to the first floor imaging department, expansion of the surgery department on the second floor to four operating rooms and two procedure rooms. Mechanical, electrical and low voltage systems throughout the hospital were upgraded and brought up to current code and modern technology. Patient rooms in the hospital third and fourth floors remain as currently configured, with minor renovation to upgrade the technology and equipment in the rooms. In the clinical services center building attached to the hospital, the basement has a 6-bed sleet lab added to the current open office spaces. On the second floor the sterile processing department, hospital pharmacy and laboratory were relocated from the hospital. The hospital kitchen and cafeteria were also relocated from the first floor to the fifth floor of the building.
The design initiative for the QMC West O`ahu was to develop a look and feel of sequence consistent with the current Queen’s Medical Center Campus. A warm and inviting, comfortable, friendly, clean, equality and safe environment. The intent was to develop spaces and operations that generate high patient satisfaction and strive for quick and effective patient services to minimize waiting. The re-configuration of the current space allows for high patient turnaround.
